Mission Theatre Company (MTC) presents the world premiere of Modern Prophet, an original play by Sam Graber, October 17-26 at the Northwind Lofts. Directed by Anneliese Stuht, Modern Prophet questions the nature of belief and explores the crossroads where destiny ends and human responsibility begins.
Against the backdrop of the Minnesota sand mining boom, an energy scavenger and his sister arrive at the river headwaters just east of Jordan. They soon learn they are not alone. A strange man roams the woods at night. He claims he carries the power of God. This mysterious outsider knows of their plans and where to find their perfect sand. But when the rain begins and the unlikely crew is stuck inside, true selves emerge and choices must be made. Will they find what they came for or something much more divine?
“MTC chose to create this new work with Sam because we wanted to find a topic that was relevant to almost everyone. While this play lives in a Judeo-Christian context it isn’t strictly religious. The concept of Free Will versus Destiny or what some call God’s Will is not new. We look forward to bringing to life unique spin that Sam devised.” said Founding Artistic Director, Andrea Tonsfeldt. This production promises to be thought-provoking, humorous and engaging!
Other works by Sam Graber have been seen at the MN Shorts Festival (Mankato), Warner International Playwrights Festival (Torrington, CT) and coming soon to the Seven Collective TheaterLab in New York City. www.samgraber.com. Modern Prophet features Katie Willer as Josie, Aaron Konigsmark as Aram, Sadeeq Ali as Elijah and Maria Signorelli as Becky.
